An architect of sparkling pop hooks, the singer-songwriter shines both lyrically and melodically. While drawing influence from a wealth of iconic songwriters and pop heavyweights, she maintains her individuality through unrelenting authenticity and determination.
Anna's impressive live shows are performed with grace, humour and conviction, as she effortlessly evokes both magic and realism through her polished, yet honest music.
2019 has seen the release of singles "Change the Way I Dress" and "Way Back When", both championed by BBC Radio Scotland. This year, Anna also made her debut at Austin's SXSW festival, and performed a packed out headline show at King Tut's Summer Night's Festival. ...A little more info
Anna Sweeney, architect of killer hooks and infectious ear worms, is blazing her own technicoloured trail into music. With a rare knack for great pop songwriting, sparkling live shows and of course, her border collie Jasper, she's rapidly becoming a woman to watch out for.
Born in Ayr, on Scotland's west coast, the multi-instrumentalist is fiercely industrious in practically every way, from designing her own artwork to arranging her live shows, to her self-penned, self-produced & self-released 2018 album "GAME FACE'.
Upon listening, you may hear influences drawn from artists such as Taylor Swift or Robyn. And while these women are a strong inspiration, Anna very much maintains her own stamp throughout her songs, both lyrically and sonically.
Since Anna's debut release "GAME FACE" in March 2018, her musical career has gone from strength to strength. The album, now exclusively available on Bandcamp, was launched with a packed out headline show in Glasgow, with hundreds of copies sold. GAME FACE received BBC Radio Scotland and BBC ALBA airplay, tens of thousands of Spotify streams, and a nomination for Scottish Album of the Year. The stunning lead single, "You Knew It", became a firm favourite among fans. Not bad for a bedroom MacBook effort, from someone who had never produced music in her life.
2018 saw Anna's live debut at music conference Xpo North, shortly after gracing the main stage in her hometown's annual "Burns Festival" alongside the likes of Chesney Hawkes and Hipsway. She delivered a well-received show at Linlithgow's Party at the Palace, and performed at several other festivals around the country.
Following performances in Nashville in previous years, Anna returned to the USA in March 2019 to experience SXSW in Austin, TX. While there, Anna secured and performed a slot headlining an evening of female acts including London's Lucy Whittaker.
Fast-forward to Summer 2019. Armed with a fan-raised studio fund from her online Kickstarter campaign, Anna released her latest single, "Way Back When", which has received airplay from Vic Galloway on BBC Introducing, as well as Nicola Meighan from Radio Scotland. The song became BBC Rapal Radio's "Single of the Week", and was followed up with a packed headline show at King Tuts Summer Nights Festival.
Late 2019 saw the release of single number two, "Change the Way I Dress", which preceded a magical headline Glasgow show, and a live session on BBC Radio Scotland. Anna is now preparing for a winter of live dates around the country, and 2020- which looks set to be her biggest year yet.
